Volunteering in general is an amazing way to do something other than studying, meet like-minded people, and learn new things. As J.M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan, once said, “Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves”.

Here are a few reasons why we think you should get involved with TSHA:

1.

We have a direct and immediate impact, and it is really gratifying to see this for yourself on shift. Although we recognise that our work is not providing long term solutions to homelessness, you will leave a shift in the knowledge you have kept someone warm, given someone good food or made someone feel less lonely for the night.

3.

Speaking with and being a good listener for people who are sleeping rough teaches you how to better empathise with those who may be in a very different situation to your own. Some of these people have amazing stories to tell and they will often love hearing about your own interests and life, if you feel comfortable talking about this.

2.

Volunteering is very low commitment! There is no lengthy application process or set number of hours you need to volunteer. Even if you do just one shift in a term you are still making a difference.

4.

Join a community of lovely people! The connections you make whilst volunteering or raising awareness of our work in college could last a lifetime!
